If you want a thing done well, do it yourself.

I'm taking my time this year.  Why rush the most wonderful time of the year, right?  So today I am beginning my efforts at a gilded burlap Christmas in our dining room.

The inspiration came about by this reindeer I found at half price yesterday while perusing the aisles at Hobby Lobby  (with 1082 other shoppers...yikes!)

I think this guy displays a Christmas ornament from my grandmother's Christmas tree honorably.  We will miss her this year.

And so it begins...

Merry Christmas!
Today I'm sharing our dining room all decked out for the holidays.
An evergreen tree wrapped in burlap and placed in an egg basket flanks the buffet.  The deer hanging above it was the inspiration for this years decor.  The ornament hanging from his antler was my grandmother's.
A few years ago I purchased a beautiful gold deer for our dining room but unfortunately it was broken during a move to the attic following the holidays.  For some reason I kept the antlers.  Now I found a great use for them. Each was placed in a napkin tied with a blue bow and placed on our china.
Do you see my photo bomber? Our dog, Mary Grace is always interested in the neighborhood traffic.  If you are a loyal fan of The Andy Griffith Show, you'll recognize the name Mary Grace.  She was Thelma Lou's cousin...and she was "real, real nice".
I hope you are enjoying the fun that comes with decorating for Christmas! I'm taking it slow and staying in the moment.  This is my favorite time of year and I want to savor every second!

Merry Christmas and welcome to The Refeathered Roost's 2015 Christmas Home Tour!
Silver and ivory glitter houses along with a vintage silver tree greet guests as they enter our foyer.
Candles light the way up the stairs.
Fabric covered ornaments adorn the banister's garland as well as our Christmas tree which was grown in our hometown! The ornaments were made from remnant fabric from chair cushions. The same fabric is repeated in our window treatments and sofa cushions.
Handmade sheep are placed in a vignette along with ivory bottle brush trees.
Cotton boll garland instead of ribbon was placed on the tree.  While making our fabric rag ornaments I also made these easy- as- pie yarn ornaments to complement the sheep tree topper on our tree.

Think twice before you throw something away — it could be made into something even cooler. There are plenty of ways you can upcycle something old into something useful and entirely unrecognizable. Here are some of the best new uses for old things.
